Noragami is a humorous and emotional anime that tells the story of an unpopular god and a middle school girl who stands by his side. Both seasons were well-received by fans, so why hasn’t Noragami Season 3 been released yet?
It’s been a long time since the last season of Noragami aired. The romantic anime comedy hasn’t received a sequel since 2015. The manga, which serves as its source material, theoretically offers enough content to create a Noragami Season 3. In this article, we’ll explore whether a sequel could even be released and why it hasn’t happened yet.
No Announcement for Noragami Season 3
Noragami is an extremely popular anime. This is evidenced not only by regular online petitions demanding a third season, but also by ratings on platforms like IMDb. There, the anime has a rating of 7.8 out of 10 stars – based on over 23,000 user reviews.
Despite this, Noragami Season 3 has not yet been announced. Neither Studio Bones nor any other responsible parties have officially renewed the anime. While it hasn’t been canceled either, fans are wondering if a continuation is even possible at this point.

Why Has Noragami Season 3 Not Been Released Yet?
The last season aired over a decade ago. The finale made it clear, however, that the story needed to continue. So why hasn’t Noragami received a sequel?
The main reason is likely commercial. The second season of the anime series sold fewer DVDs and Blu-rays than expected. In Japan, physical disc sales played a very important role at the time, which is why the second season was considered a flop despite good reviews.
Studio Bones initially focused on other projects. My Hero Academia, for example, was a huge financial success, which is why Noragami took a backseat. Meanwhile, interest in the anime seems to have waned among many fans, making a third season increasingly unlikely.

Can We Still Expect the Sequel?
The chances of a Noragami Season 3 are quite slim. This is not only because the second season wasn’t a big financial success in Japan, but also because of the long hiatus. It’s rare for anime to get new episodes after more than a decade.
You shouldn’t get your hopes up too high for the sequel. Instead, read the manga, which brought the story of Yato, Hiyori & Co. to a close in early 2024. Adachitoka’s manga is the basis for the anime and therefore the original work.
A total of 27 volumes have been published. The anime only adapted about a third of them. If you want to know what happens after the second season, you’ll need to start with chapter 38, which is contained in volume 10.
Be aware, however, that the anime changed some details, especially in the second season finale. It might therefore be a good idea to read the manga completely from the beginning. The series is available in English and many other languages.
