My Hero Academia has shown that superheroes and anime are a perfect match. The series, based on the manga by Kōhei Horikoshi, reached millions of fans worldwide. However, there will be no My Hero Academia Season 9, and there’s a simple reason for that.
Based on the manga of the same name, the first season of My Hero Academia aired in 2016. The series’ success led to seven more seasons over the years. My Hero Academia currently comprises 171 episodes, which tell the story of Izuku Midoriya and his friends. Where is the next season?
My Hero Academia Season 9 Won’t Happen
There will be no My Hero Academia Season 9. The reason is simple: the story of Izuku and the other superheroes has come to an end. The manga on which the story is based was fully adapted with the eighth season, which aired in 2026, and offers no further content that could be animated.
After almost a decade, the story came to an end. The finale of the eighth season also made it relatively clear that it couldn’t really continue: Izuku no longer possesses supernatural powers and now works as a teacher at the Hero Academy, training the next generation.

What Fans Can Do Now
We usually recommend that our readers jump into the manga at this point. However, in the case of My Hero Academia, that doesn’t make much sense, as the story has already been fully adapted. But that doesn’t mean you have to turn your back on the franchise.
My Hero Academia includes several films, among other things. These tell additional stories not found in the manga. Specifically, these are: My Hero Academia: Two Heroes (2018) , My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising (2019), My Hero Academia: World Heroes (2021), and My Hero Academia: You’re Next (2024).
If you’ve already seen the movies, there’s also a spin-off called My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, which focuses on new characters. The series is also based on a manga by Kōhei Horikoshi and premiered in 2025. A second season was released in early 2026.

What Happens in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes?
The story takes place long before the events of the main series. In this world, there are two types of superheroes: those who use their powers with a license and those who do not. However, not all are villains: some fight evil in secret as so-called vigilantes, circumventing the official rules.
This group also includes student Kouichi Haimawari. He dreams of becoming a great hero one day, but his gliding ability is less than impressive. Therefore, he currently only uses his Quirk for small, everyday tasks.
That changes when he is rescued by the vigilante Knuckleduster, who asks him to help find the dangerous drug “Trigger”, which amplifies Quirks and causes its users to lose control. Without a license, however, Kouichi and his allies must also contend with the law.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, like the eight seasons of the main series, is available to stream on Crunchyroll. You can also stream the four anime movies there.
