Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is reminiscent of Attack on Titan, but has its own unique charm. The first season aired in 2019, and there was also a movie. But when will the story continue with Season 2?
Humans barricading themselves behind walls against deadly creatures? That sounds a lot like Attack on Titan, but Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress tells a completely unique story. The anime has captivated numerous fans, some of whom are patiently waiting for a second season. However, it seems unlikely that one will be forthcoming.
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: No Plans for Season 2
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress Season 2 has not yet been announced, and there’s a reason for that. The anime was conceived by Studio WIT as an original anime and concluded with the first season and the movie sequel “Battle of Unato”.
There will be no second season. Unlike many other anime series, there is no manga adaptation. If you haven’t seen the movie “Battle of Unato” yet, we recommend watching it first. The story takes place six months after the series finale. You can watch it as a three-part special on Netflix.
The Story of Battle of Unato
Ikoma, Mumei, and the others reach the damaged city of Unato in the armored “Iron Fortress” Koutetsujou, where resistance fighters are battling a horde of Kabane. Ikoma notices that the Kabane are behaving in an unusually coordinated manner. He suspects that their attacks conceal a secret and decides to investigate a hidden tunnel within the fortress of Unato.
The local leaders, however, don’t believe him and, due to his out-of-control Kabaneri instincts, see him as a threat. Ikoma is therefore temporarily imprisoned. Meanwhile, Mumei sets off with some companions to investigate the mysterious power source in the fortress and ventures into the dangerous tunnel.
The Best Anime Like Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress will not be getting a sequel. That’s pretty certain. Therefore, it makes sense to explore new anime series. We can recommend these anime, which are also packed with action, similar to Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress:
Attack on Titan
Attack on Titan is probably the most obvious choice and even shares the same director. The anime classic is set in a world where humanity hides behind gigantic walls from humanoid monsters known as Titans. But one day, their safety is threatened, and everything changes.
Seraph of the End
In Seraph of the End, a virus has wiped out most of humanity. Only children under the age of 13 survived the epidemic. But their fate is just as cruel, as they are enslaved by vampires and used as blood donors. Yuuichirou Hyakuya dreams of changing his destiny.
God Eater
Japan in 2071: Mysterious monsters known as Aragami have destroyed large parts of the world. To fight them, an organization called Fenrir was established, using special weapons known as God Arcs. These weapons are created from the cells of the Aragami. The warriors who use them to battle these creatures are known as God Eaters.
