Gangsta is one of those shows that’s not on the radar of many anime fans. Those who are familiar with the series, however, are hoping for a comeback. The chances aren’t great, but a recent announcement has rekindled hope for Gangsta Season 2.
Gangsta is set in the fictional city of Ergastulum, a place teeming with mafia, petty criminals, and prostitutes. The story follows two henchmen, Nicolas Brown and Worick Arcangelo, who take on any job, no matter how dangerous. Their story has been told in 12 episodes in one season so far. When will Gangsta continue with Season 2?
Where Is Gangsta Season 2?
The first season of Gangsta was released over a decade ago: The last episode aired with an unresolved Cliffhanger in September 2015. Since then, there has been no serious sign of life from the anime – and there’s one main reason for that.
The animation studio filed for bankruptcy in the same year the series aired. As with Deadman Wonderland, the series cannot be continued. Theoretically, a new studio would have to take over production for Gangsta Season 2. However, there has been no announcement about this so far. But there is still hope for fans.

Why There is New Hope for the Fans
Like many other anime, Gangsta is based on a manga. However, only eight volumes have been published so far, as the artist Kohske’s health problems repeatedly delayed production. The manga then went on hiatus completely in 2020 – at least until recently.
Following an official announcement, the series returned in July 2026. The artist explained via social media that new chapters would now be released. Although her illness still causes her difficulties, which may occasionally lead to delays, Gangsta is back!

Where The Manga Continues
If you want to continue reading after the end of the first anime season, you’ll need to start with chapter 28, which is in the sixth volume. If you’d like more context about the characters and events, it’s worth reading from chapter 24 onwards, as the anime omitted some details.
Unfortunately, the manga doesn’t offer much material yet. Before a second season can be produced, more volumes need to be released. This will likely take several years, considering Kohske’s health problems and the previous publication pace.
