Great Pretender has become a favorite series among anime fans on Netflix. It revolves around deception and being deceived, while the plot combines charm with humor. After the first two seasons, many fans are quite rightly wondering if and when the anime will continue. Here’s everything we know about a possible Season 3.
The Current State of Great Pretender Season 3
Great Pretender is an original anime by Studio Wit. This means there is no manga source material. While a manga does exist, it was published shortly after the anime and adapts its story. The first two seasons were released on Netflix in Summer of 2020.
After that, things remained quiet around the Netflix series for several years until February 2024, when the spin-off sequel Great Pretender: Razbliuto was released, focusing on the character Dorothy. It cannot be considered a third season, as the main storyline is not continued and the special only comprises four episodes.
Since then, there has been no news about the anime. A third season has not yet been announced. The production studio has only stated that they “hope” to produce another season, reffering to streaming numbers and the writer’s motivation.
When Could Great Pretender Season 3 Premiere?
As previously mentioned, Great Pretender Season 3 has not been greenlit. Therefore, we don’t know if the sequel will ever be released. However, should it happen, we’ll update this article so you can stay informed.
Should a third season be announced, the premiere shouldn’t be too far off. After an official announcement, it usually only takes a few months to a year for an anime to start airing. However, there are some exceptions.

Is It Time to Move On?
The chances for a Great Pretender Season 3 aren’t exactly good. Even though the production team has expressed interest, we’re far from a “real” sequel. There hasn’t been an official announcement and the first two seasons were released around six years ago, while the spin-off can only be seen a small side project.
Furthermore, Great Pretender is an anime without a manga source material. Therefore, fans have no way of finding out how the story of Makoto, Laurent, and the others continues. We advise against having too high hopes for a continuation of the anime.

The Story of Great Pretender So Far
Great Pretender tells the story of Japanese con artist Makoto Edamura, who reluctantly joins Laurent Thierry’s gang of con men. Together, they target powerful criminals worldwide, swindling them out of their fortunes with elaborate schemes.
During their heists, Laurent’s associates Abigail and Cynthia also find themselves in the spotlight. Their troubled pasts are gradually revealed, while Makoto is increasingly torn between his conscience and the life of a con man.
In the finale of Season 2, Makoto returns to Japan, where his biggest heist yet awaits. At the same time, we learn more about Laurent’s past and the origins of the group, before the sequel, Great Pretender: Razbliuto, continues Dorothy’s story.
