The anime KonoSuba offers a fun mix of comedy and adventure. However, the watch order can be a bit confusing for newcomers, as the story now spans several seasons, specials, a movie, and a spin-off. Here’s how to watch KonoSuba the right way.
You want to immerse yourself in the world of KonoSuba, but don’t know how? Then you’re just like many other anime fans. The story of Kazuma, Aqua, and the others spans several seasons, supplemented by side stories. It’s no wonder that many people are left confused.
The Correct Watch Order for KonoSuba
Anyone wanting to start watching KonoSuba shouldn’t just jump in blindly. For example, if you watch the individual seasons first and then the specials, you’ll fall behind in the story. It’s important to know that there’s really only one correct watch order for the anime, which is based on the light novel – namely, the following:
| Watch Order | Title | Format | Important? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! | Season 1 | Yes |
| 2 | KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 2 | Season 2 | Yes |
| 3 | KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! – Legend of Crimson | Movie | Yes |
| 4 | KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! | Spin-off | Recommended |
| 5 | KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! 3 | Season 3 | Yes |
| 6 | KonoSuba 3 – Bonus Stage | OVA | Optional |
| 7 | KonoSuba 3 – Bonus OVA | OVA | Optional |
KonoSuba’s OVAs are generally considered non-canon, so they are not part of the main storyline from the original light novels. However, they’re still worth watching if you want more KonoSuba content, as they feature additional side storys with Kazuma, Aqua and the others.
What Is KonoSuba About?
If you’re not familiar with the anime, let us first introduce you to the story: It centers on the seemingly ordinary Kazuma Satou, who was supposed to have died in a car accident. Instead, he wakes up to find himself with a beautiful, blue-haired girl who introduces herself as the goddess Aqua.
She asks the still-confused Kazuma if he would prefer to go to heaven or be reincarnated in a fantasy world. While heaven is described as boring and uneventful, the fantasy world is in desperate need of someone to defeat a powerful villain.
If he chooses the latter, Kazuma can take any item he likes, such as an ability or weapon. To the goddess’s surprise and annoyance, he ultimately decides to simply take her with him. Thus, the two embark on a strange adventure that unfolds quite differently than they had imagined.
Where Can I Watch KonoSuba?
Where you can stream KonoSuba depends on which country you’re in. However, in most regions, the anime is available on Crunchyroll. Besides the individual seasons, the streaming service also offers the OVAs, the movie, and the spin-off. Besides the sub, a dubbed version is often available as well.
